I suppose, he hasn't been politically active in the 1970's, since he was born only in 1970.

According to all French newspapers, Apfel was accused within his party of inappropriate gestures with a young activist;) he was accused of homosexuality in a party who is fighting homosexuality, so that he he was forced to resign.
